On Thursday, December 30, 2021, my wife and I lost our home in Louisville, CO, and all our possessions, in the Marshall Fire, which was the most destructive wildfires in Colorado history. The fire, which impacted Louisville (where I live) and Superior, CO, destroyed 1,084 homes and took 2 lives. While it was a truly devasting event, the community response and support was tremendous.
Since losing our home we decided to rebuild on the same lot. We scoured the internet to find plans and designs that we like then finally settled on a Modern Craftsman design. We then worked with an architect to design a custom build that met our needs and most of our wants. Next, we found a builder that could build the house within our budget. We finally moved into our new home in 2024.
I am happy to report that we are now fully rebuilt and recovered. As this was a completely overwhelming and exhausting process, I decided to take a short career break. I was able to use the much-needed time off to furnish, landscape and organize our new home. I was also able to get caught up on some overdue sleep.
I am happily married to the love of my life. We have two adult children whom I am exceptionally proud of.
One of the many benefits of living on the Colorado Front Range is close-by access to some of the best mountain biking trails available. As such, I am an avid mountain biker and like to take advantage of those trails at every opportunity. When possible, I also like to travel to some of my favorite mountain biking locations, including Salida, CO, Crested Butte, CO and Moab, UT.
I have combined my passion for mountain biking with public service as a volunteer Bike Patroller for the Boulder Mountain Bike Patrol for the past twelve years. The Boulder Mountain Bike Patrol covers all bikeable trails in Boulder County and is one of the largest and most active volunteer mountain bike patrol organizations in the world. I was honored to be appointed Director of the organization for two consecutive terms. During my 2nd term, the organization was awarded the Blue Grama Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Partnership and Collaboration by the Colorado Open Space Alliance.
As soon as the resorts open for the season, I put away my bikes and break-out the skis! Some of my favorite Colorado skiing destinations are Winter Park, Copper Mountain, Vail, Aspen Mountain, Steamboat and Beaver Creek, as well as my favorite local mountain, Eldora.
There is so much to see and do in Colorado but much of it isn't accessible via paved road. This is where a Jeep comes in handy. I've explored some of the most beautiful, and remote, places in Colorado and Utah with my Jeep. When I'm not exploring in it, I'm often working on it or installing an upgrade.
There is much more to this world than just Colorado. Whenever we get the opportunity, my wife and I like to travel the world. There is no better way to meet new people, learn about other cultures, sample incredible food or just relax and enjoy life! And, wherever we go, we are sure to take plenty pictures to ensure we have captured those memories.
